stopped april. man outside of d.c. police headquarters. it happened in the 300 block of indiana avenue. a man was stabbed in the back. no word on his condition. this morning police are trying to figure out what killed mother whose body was found just minutes after neighbors watched a man jump out of a window. officers found the woman yesterday afternoon in an apartment on 4th street in southwest washington. they think she's been dead for some time. darcy spencer reports. >> reporter: technicians from the d.c. medical examiners office wore protective gear and masks as they removed the body of a woman who had been dead for three or four days in her apartment. police looked inside dumpsters and used k-9 searches for potential murder weapons. >> we're investigating whether it's been a homicide but it's not been confirmed. that's going to take some time. we'll wait for autopsy results. >> reporter: the woman was found

in her bedroom in the 4200 block of 4th street. police initially responded to the report of trouble at the apartment after her mentally challenged son jumped from a second story bedroom. sources tell news 4 that the woman lived with her disabled son. he was being treated at local hospital. >> talking with neighbors and relatives we believe there's a woman that lived in this location that did have two sons. so all that will come out when we finish interviewing be folks. >> reporter: an autopsy will be performed. neighbors say she dropped her son off at the bus stop on monday. >> very sad. >> mother's day. >> i hope they find the person that did this. >> reporter: the woman's disabled son was still being treated at a local hospital pinpoint appears he was assaulted as well. an autopsy is zoed be performed

sometime today. in southeast, darcy spencer, "news4 today." police are hoping some new sketches will help them solve a high-profile murder case at a centerville manage. the handyman was working at the home when two intruders broke in. police now have sketches of the two suspects. the suspected gunman is in his late 20s to early 30s. he's called slim by the other suspect. anyone with information is asked to call police. families from around the country are in college park this morning for the university of maryland's graduation. extra police are also in town to make sure graduation celebrations don't get out of hand. jackie bensen has more from college park. >> reporter: the university of maryland's 2010 commencement marked the end of a school year in college park that has seen its share of controversy. much of it over celebrations

that got out of control. dozens of students were arrested for an alcohol fueled riot that broke out when the men's basketball team beat duke on march 49. some accused police of using excessive force. campus and community officials are concerned about graduation celebrations involving alcohol. >> we'll be working with the city of college park to queen sure that the bars and restaurants are maintaining their codes and standards on alcohol distribution. we would like to ask patrons of the bars they drink responsibly and evening act responsibly. >> reporter: the streets of downtown college park will be the subject of extra patrols by prince george's county police and campus police. >> we expect large crowds of pedestrians crossing route 1 which is a busy highway and so we're working with the police department with our own code enforcement officers and our own contract police officers provided a higher level of

the conspiracy trial surrounding robert wone's murder continues morning. the judge heard from the first paramedic to arrive at the scene. no one has been charged in the killing. but three men who live in that house are accused of covering up the murder. pat collins has more. >> reporter: his name is jeff baker. he's 44 years old.

he was the first medic on the scene of the fight of robert wone's murder. when he arrived, baker said he remembers seeing defendant victor zaborski on the stoop crying. baker said i didn't feel like his crying was sincere. on the second floor of the house he said he encountered the defendant dillon ward. baker said ward walked away from him. he appeared to be disconnected said medimmediatmedic baker. in the guest room he said he saw defendant joseph rice sitting on the bed next to robert wone. baker remembers price saying i heard a scream and then price stood up. medic baker said he felt threatened. my radar went up. something wasn't right. now it was back in august 2006 that attorney robert wone was stabbed to death as he was spending the night at a friend's house. no one has been charged with the

murder. but three men who lived in the house all have been charged with trying to cover up the crime. medic baker said when he got a close look at wone's abdomen that night he saw a film of blood with stripe marks as if it had been wiped down. he described the stripe marks as something you might find on a kitchen towel. i'm pat collin, "news4 today." >> prosecutors said they believe wone was restrained or incapacitated before being stabbed. there were unexplained needle marks on the body. >> family, friends and co-workers will say good-bye to a d.c. intern. alonte sutton was a straight a student and intern for michael brown. he was found shot to death in a wooded area in southeast washington earlier this month. one person has been charged with his death. the funeral will take place at

alan chapel ame church. police believe a body found at a recycling center in prince william county has ties to newport news, virginia. the remains were discovered wednesday night in manassas. the body was in a recycling container that was picked up in newport news and then transferred facility in prince william county nope word on how the victim died or the person's identity. identity thieves used a credit card from a virginia senator to buy marijuana. police are looking for two people. senator saslaw contacted virginia police in march when his american express card was decline. they learned from police in california someoning changed saslaw's address. police believe the two suspects are now in fresno. president obama is expected to push for better fuel economy standards today.

the white house will announce plans to extend a national fuel efficiency program for cars and trucks in the 2017 model and beyond pinpoint would create standards for heavy work trucks beginning with the year 2014 model. the move would cut greenhouse gases and give drivers more miles per gallon. that oil leak in the gulf of mexico is much larger than bp officials first said. the current siphoning effort is capturing 5,000 barrels a day but oil continues to spew into top ocean. frustration is continuing to grow. kristen dahlgren reports. >> reporter: this is what you see. real-time video. vast amounts of oil still pouring into the gulf. bp claims it is now collecting 5,000 barrels a day.

there are reports the paintings were not insured. police fear the artwork will never be recovered. the man who oversees america's 16 intelligence agencies is stepping down this morning. national intelligence director dennis blair is expected to turn in his resignation to president obama today. this follows a recent congressional report on intelligence failures. that report said his office did not connect intelligence that could have prevent ad bombing attempt on a detroit plane last christmas. at least 16 people who were later linked to terror plots passed through airports undetected according to a new federal report. the report blames behavior detection officials who work for the tsa and hired to notice people acting suspiciously. earlier this month, faisal shahzad made it on to an airplane before he was caught. a man who plotted to blow up the new york subway system also traveled through newark airport in august of 2008. police need your help in tracking down a serial bank

robber in the district. the latest happened last tuesday. he robbed the tmc bank in the 1100 block of 8th street northwest and another branch in the 1900 block of 18th northwest. police are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. the redskins are taking their time to react to reports that wide receiver santana moss received treatment from canadian doctor charged with smuggling performance-enhancing drugs. it's not known if he was actually injected with growth morn. moss won't face charges but could be suspended by the nfl. mike shanahan said he won't comment on the story until he learns more. >> i'll wait and see before we throw him underneath the bus. just because he's associated with a doctor doesn't mean he's

continues to scare investors. asia's major stock indexes closed down and most stocks are falling. this comes a day after the dow plummeted more than 3%. largest one day decline since february of last year. the white house is celebrity accelerating the passage of another major piece of legislation. the senate passed a bill that would overhaul the financial system. the senate bill must be reconciled with a house version of the safe bill. d.c. council members are trying to implement a commuter tax that would affect people that work in the district but live elsewhere. congress would still have to approve the measure. a mother's body was discovered inside her d.c. apartment and authorities think the body had been there fleer or four days. her body was found yesterday on 4th street in southeast washington. the woman's mentally challenged son was seen jumping from a window shortly before police

trucks in the 2017 model and beyond. it would also create standards for heavy work trucks beginning with the 2014 model year. the move would cut greenhouse gases and give drivers more miles per gallon. the plan also includes more electric peernd other next generation cars, trucks and suvs. we're getting a better understanding of how much oil is actually gushing out into the gulf of mexico. bp released more real-time video showing the oil leak. the company says it's capturing about 5,000 barrels of oil a day. now that's the same amount bp first said was actually gushing out. the company is siphoning the oil from the well at the bottom of the ocean but a whole lot more continues to gush into the open ocean. >> lost all credibility. now the decisions will have to be made by others because it's clear that they have been hiding the actual consequence. >> the obama administration is demanding bp make public all of

people will participate in today's event. they have organizers say they have about 35 caravans of people bike to work. many of them will end up at freedom plaza in the district later on this morning for a rally there. again, great source of exercise, great way to get to work. the hope is that this event will raise awareness and encourage bhoem have some interest but haven't quite done it yet to actually get on the band wagon, leave that car at home and cycle to work. now there are a number of trails all around our region, we're very lucky in that that there are some trails available to cyclists. in the district of columbia they have a number of bike lanes they will open up. those new bike lanes they are opening up around pennsylvania avenue and the like they are not officially opened, there's some tweaking that needs to be done with some of those larngs some signage and other things that need to be tweaked before they can open those lanes.

and fears it could pull the thicker oil to the keys. environmental groups continue to urge the government to take stronger action. the head of the national wildlife federation called the gulf of mexico a crime scene. kristen dahlgren, nbc news, clearwater beach, florida. on capitol hill the house is considering a bill that would increase taxes on oil companies by $10.9 billion to finance the oil spill liability trust fund. help for the gulf may be coming from hollywood. bp said it will test out kevin costner's clean up system. costner demonstrated a machine in new orleans last week that he says extracts oil from water. he worked with his brother who is a scientist. tul and water enter the machine together and jet with fuel on one side and diesel. it will clean the water up to 97%. he's invested 15 years and $24 million to the project.

he was taken to a local hospital. no word yet on his condition. today family, friends and co-workers will say a final farewell to a d.c. intern shot and killed. alonte sutton was a straight amp student and an intern for council member michael brown. he was found shot to death in a wooded area near newcomb street in southeast earlier this month. one person has been charged in his death. the funeral will take place at alan chapel ame church. the viewing begins at 10:00 followed by service at 11:00 this morning. this morning a pilot is recovering after his aircraft skid off a private grass runway in prince george's county. he was landing that aircraft from brandywine yesterday evening when it ran off the grass. the pilot was trapped for a while. his injuries are described as moderate but not life threatening. you're commute could be more expensive if the d.c. council has its way.

we're getting a better understanding of how much oil is actually gushing out of the gulf coast. bp released more real-time video. the company says it's capturing about 5,000 barrels of oil a day. the same amount bp first said was gushing out.

when two intruders broke in. during the scuffle he was shot and killed. police now have sketches of the two suspects. police say one of the men, the suspected gunman is in his late 20s to mid-30s. they say he's called slim by the younger suspect who appears to be in his early 20s. anyone with information is asked to call the police. today an autopsy could determine what killed a woman whose body was found inside her d.c. apartment. this happened yesterday afternoon on 4th street in southeast washington. police believe the woman's body was there for three or four days. police were called to the scene after sources say the woman's mentally challenged son was seen jumping from a second floor window. find out who is charging $20 a ticket at the movies.
